Melissa Ben-Ishay is a mom, baker, and founder of Baked by Melissa, the New York City-based brand famous for its signature, bite-size cupcakes and treats. Passionate about baking since childhood and with the idea that people should be able to taste more flavors without a post-dessert guilt trip, she decided to do what she loved and launched Baked by Melissa after being fired from her job in advertising.
She started baking in her tiny New York City apartment, and opened Baked by Melissa’s first location in Soho the summer of 2008. Since then, the company has sold over 100 million cupcakes, now operates 14 stores and ships nationwide. Melissa has been featured on Food Network’s The Kitchen, the Harry show, Oprah magazine, The Today Show, NBC’s New York Live, Good Day New York, Forbes ‘30 Under 30’, Good Housekeeping, Entrepreneur, Inc. and more. In October of 2017 she released her first cookbook, Cakes by Melissa.
Melissa currently serves as the company’s President and Chief Product Officer, and empowers her team with the same message her father told her every day: “You can do anything.
